Kneeling In the Road

She asks for
Darkness and light
Emptiness pours
From the silent song
Of her body
Birds hear the song
Made bright in the darkness
The ground her faith
Her words open

A language made real
In a dark place
Her tongue fills with knowledge
From the car to the fields
To the cities
She’s driven through
A place where a woman can be
Completely naked and silent
And not be seen

Long song of words
The sound of the city gets quieter
The road emptied
Cools against her legs
A woman a road a darkness
Birds with light on their wings
Deep dark knowing
A road in a city she touches
It sings back to her
